The philosophy behind HCA is summed up in our motto: “Training minds to lead and hearts to serve.” We take as our guiding mandate Proverbs 22:6, “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.” We exist for the primary purpose of joining with Christian families to present the truth of God’s Word to the minds and hearts of our children. We seek to do this first of all as role models of the grace of God through our own lives. Then through interaction with students in the classroom, at play, on field trips, in chapel, in the athletic arena, in every setting God gives us, we seek to know Christ and to make Him known. By God’s grace we desire that our students grow in the understanding and commitment that all truth is God’s truth (“Tota veritas est Dei veritas!”), and that only the knowledge of God through Jesus Christ gives fullness and meaning to life (“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” John 14:6). Then we desire not just to equip our students to be positive change agents in our culture, but also to enable them by the power of the Holy Spirit to be servants of Christ to a dying world. Ultimately, our success will only be revealed in the light of eternity. Our role at HCA is to stand alongside Christian parents and the local church to assist them in raising young Christian leaders of the future. Our curriculum and activities are designed to demonstrate the Lordship of Christ over all of life. We seek to provide a
safe and Christ-honoring environment that will challenge both faculty and students to strive for excellence spiritually, academically, socially, and physically. Harvester is an important community where students will develop self-image and self-esteem, set goals, and cultivate talents for His glory. The encouragement and opportunities students encounter will have a powerful impact on their future. Harvester Christian Academy is committed to sending our students into the world to proclaim Christ, to live lives of service in His kingdom, and to change our culture and the world through the power of the gospel. Harvester promotes enjoyment of learning, problem solving, and independent thinking so that students are able to respond enthusiastically to challenge. Harvester students excel both inside and outside of the classroom. As our students venture out into the world they will build their lives upon a solid foundation, which will weather the storms ahead of them.
The mission God has given to HCA is to rely upon His grace to equip our students to penetrate the world with the Gospel (“Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28: 18-20; “When He saw the crowds, He had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, ‘the harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest field.” Matthew 9:36-38).
The goal for HCA is taken from the Westminster Larger Catechism. The first question in that teaching tool is: “What is the chief and highest end of man? The answer is “Man’s chief and highest end is to glorify God, and to enjoy Him forever.” HCA’s goal is to glorify God by educating His children, training them to become servant leaders, and teaching them to penetrate the world as cultural change agents, reflecting his great love and mercy. Our vision extends beyond ourselves to not only this present generation of students, but to their children and to their children’s children. Our expectant hope is that not until eternity will we see the true extent of the impact of our ministry for God in this part of His kingdom work. You are invited to join with us in a labor greater than any other as we invest our lives into the children God has given us.
