As a competitive, college preparatory school, one of Harvester’s goals is the preparation of students for college. To assist in attaining this goal, Harvester offers an extensive college-counseling program. The Office of College and Career Guidance exists to support students in determining career paths, formulating college and career goals, and implementing steps to reach those goals. Harvester students are afforded resources developed to assure their success. The college-counseling program is aimed at assisting each family to use the college search and application process as a tool to find the best match between their student’s needs and desires and the offerings of various colleges. Guidance faculty begin dialog and planning with students in Middle School to provide assistance in course direction and continue to refine and assist in attaining the High School student’s goals relating to life beyond Harvester. Counselors assist families by inviting college financial aid advisers (GFSC) to campus to educate parents and students on availability of scholarships and grants.
Harvester encourages students to visit college campuses and hosts college recruiters on HCA’s campus for discussions. HCA graduates are eligible to receive the HOPE Scholarship as well as the Hope Pell Grant and other scholarships. Harvester graduates attend colleges of their choice and have attended universities or been offered admission to Auburn University, The Citadel, Berry College, Covenant College, The University of Alabama, University of Georgia, Georgia Tech, Mercer University, Young Harris, Georgia State University, Samford University, Oglethorpe University, Georgia Southern, The University of West Georgia and other state and prestigious private universities across the nation. Each year, Harvester seniors of excellence are recognized as leaders among the state and nation and are awarded academic and athletic scholarships at the college level. Better than 90% of HCA graduates go on to attend higher education at a public or private university.
