Congratulations to Kelsey Dobbs and Josh Steele from Harvester Christian Academy for being selected as GreyStone Power Washington Youth Tour Delegates. Kelsey and Josh competed against other recommended leader-students from 15 highschools across 8 counties in Georgia including Landmark, Colonial Hills, Chapel Hills, Douglas County, Alexander, Lithia Springs, Paulding, and others. Kelsey and Josh represent 2 of the top 6 students selected who scored the highest on the required exam. The Washington Youth Tour is an all expense paid one week summer tour of the Nation's Capital City beginning with a tour of Georgia's capital. The WYT's goal is to develop leaders, expand the student's knowledge about the history of our country, and to increase their knowledge about rural electrification. Approximately 1000 student leaders nationwide will meet in Washington as WYT Delegates.
Congratulations to Sam Dobbs, a 6th grader at Harvester Christian Academy. Sam represented Harvester earlier in March at the state's Georgia Spelling Bee and won his age group advancing him to the Southern Region States Spelling Bee to be held March 21 in Atlanta. Competing in the Southern Region States Spelling Bee are winners from Georgia, Virginia, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, S. Carolina, Mississippi, and North Carolina. Winners of the Southern Region States Spelling Bee will advance to the National Spelling Bee to be held in Washington D.C later this year.
Seniors Jake Brown and Micah Vineyard were both recommended for the Servant Leadership Program at Columbus State University by Michelle Berry. Jake and Micah applied for the program by sending in a listing of all of their community service and leadership activities, as well as three recommendation letters from faculty and community leaders. Both boys were selected to be interviewed by the Servant Leadership Committee at Columbus State in March. According to their award letters, they were chosen from a large and competitive group of applicants. They will be receiving a $2500/year stipend each year that they attend Columbus State University to help cover education expenses. The program involves community service, mentoring, and special leadership classes taken for credit during their four years at CSU.
